The Colorado Buffaloes defeated the Baylor Bears in a dramatic, thrilling overtime showdown on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to make the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The Buffs were unranked and received no votes in the Week 5 poll, the same as in the Weeks 3 and 4 polls, when Colorado did not receive a single vote.

The Buffaloes were also not ranked at the start of the season, despite receiving one vote in the preseason poll and one vote in Week 1. However, after a 28-10 loss to Nebraska on September 7, they fell completely out of voters’ minds for a few weeks.

But Colorado is now 3-1 on the season after an incredible win over Baylor on Saturday night. Shedeur Sanders threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns, none of which were more important than his throw into the end zone on the final play of the game that was somehow caught by LaJohntay Wester to force overtime.

The Buffs promptly scored with a touchdown by Micah Welch on their first possession of overtime before Heisman candidate Travis Hunter forced a fumble at the goal line to end the game.

It was a classic win for the Buffaloes, even though Baylor is only 2-2 this season. But Colorado celebrated its return to the Big 12 in style.

Now fans will be wondering when — or if — the team will make its debut in the AP Top 25 poll in 2024. The Buffs will face UCF next week before having a bye and then resume their Big 12 schedule with a game against Kansas State on Oct. 12.
