Derek Dixon announces his commitment today

On Friday afternoon, one of Pitt’s top targets in the 2025 senior class will announce his commitment.

Derek Dixon, a 6-foot-4 guard prospect from Gonzaga College Prep in Washington D.C., will announce where he will play college basketball live on the YouTube channel 247 Sports at 3 p.m

Pitt is in the running for Dixon along with North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

Multiple 247 Sports insiders have predicted that Dixon will commit to North Carolina.

Pitt target Derek Dixon signing predictions are coming true

Dixon, a four-star out of Gonzaga Prep in Washington D.C., has developed a close relationship with Pitt head coach Jeff Capel, associate head coach Milan Brown and the rest of the team over the course of more than two years since they began recruiting staff established.

The Pitt team is working hard to sign Dixon, as evidenced by Capel and Brown’s trip to D.C. to meet him two weeks ago, the same day he canceled his visit to Arizona.

Ranked as the No. 51 player in the country by 247 Sports, if Dixon were to commit to Pitt, he would be the highest-ranked player to commit to Capel since taking the head coaching position at Pitt. The title of Capel’s highest-ranked commitment currently belongs to Dior Johnson, who was ranked 53rd overall in the 247 Sports Class of 2022 rankings. Johnson never appeared in a game for Pitt after being suspended in his freshman season. He spent last year at Clarendon College (JUCO) and now plays at UCF in the Big 12.

Dixon has visited Pitt three times – twice for unofficial visits and once for an official.
