Detroit Tigers vs. San Diego Padres: Odds, Preview and Prediction – September 4

The San Diego Padres are in pole position for a wild card spot in the National League. They will have to work hard to catch the Los Angeles Dodgers in the race for the National League’s West division. They will look to narrow their lead when the Detroit Tigers visit San Diego on Wednesday.

Keider Montero starts for Detroit. Montero has a 5.17 ERA with 1.7 home runs and 3.1 walks allowed per nine innings, allowing at least four runs in five of his last nine starts.

Top MLB Resources:

Montero faces a Padres team that has the highest batting average against right-handed pitchers in the league at .274. Since the All-Star break, the Padres have averaged 5.3 runs per game, the second-highest number among National League teams.

Yu Darvish starts for the Padres. Darvish will make his first MLB start since May 28. In his only minor league rehab appearance, he allowed six runs in 3 1/2 innings.

While the Tigers rank 22nd in total points, they average more runs per game away from home: just 4.1 runs per game at home compared to 4.3 runs per game away from home.

Both teams enter this series with comparable bullpen performances. The Tigers are ranked 11th with a bullpen ERA of 3.80 and the Padres are ranked 13th with a bullpen ERA of 3.84.

With Darvish back in the starting lineup for the first time in months and the Padres facing off, there should be plenty of runs on Wednesday in San Diego.
