DeVonta Smith and Lane Johnson are among the Philadelphia Eagles players who left the victory over the New Orleans Saints injured

The Philadelphia Eagles went into Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints without Star wideout AJ Brown and left the Caesars Superdome with several other injured key players on Sunday with a 15-12 win.

The Eagles lost several offensive players, including offensive linemen Lane Johnson, Mekhi Becton and wide receiver DeVonta Smith. Johnson and Smith suffered concussions, while Becton suffered a finger injury. Wide receiver and punt returner Britain Covey was out with a shoulder injury.

With Johnson and Becton out, Tyler Steen played right guard and Fred Johnson stepped in as right tackle.

According to the broadcast on FOXLane Johnson was seen vomiting on the sidelines before leaving the game late in the second quarter.

Despite losing two starters on the right side of the offensive line, Philadelphia still had success in the running game. Saquon Barkley managed 147 rushing yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. Much of his yardage came on a 65-yard run for his first touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Entering the game, the Saints allowed opposing teams just 3.1 yards per carry.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter Smith was hit hard from helmet to helmet by Saints defensive tackle Khristian Boyd after catching a pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Smith, who had seven catches for 79 yards in the win, was a “warrior.”

“DeVonta Smith is one of the toughest guys I know,” Sirianni said. “He’s one of the toughest guys I know. I’ll get an update on how he’s doing. Obviously he didn’t return to the game, but if he was able to, he would have, because DeVonta Smith is tough… DeVonta Smith is a warrior, he’s tough, and he puts his body on the line. These guys put their bodies on the line, playing in and out, and he’s one that does that all the time. I hope he’s OK.”

Without Smith and Brown on offense, tight end Dallas Goedert was able to catch a pass ten times for 170 yards – both career highs.

Goedert’s 55-yard catch late in the fourth quarter contributed to Barkley’s game-winning touchdown that gave the Eagles the lead with 1:01 to play.

It is unclear if Lane Johnson, Smith, Brown, Becton and Covey will return next week on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brown, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, told ESPN before Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons that he would be out for several weeks, so he may return against the Bucs. If Smith and Brown can’t play, Philadelphia’s wide receiver group would be decimated.

Fortunately, the Eagles have some much-needed off time after their Week 5 game against Tampa Bay to allow some players to rest.
