Dodgers-Yankees World Series Tickets: Here are tips to avoid scams

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — If you want to see a World Series game between the Dodgers and Yankees in person, it’s going to be expensive – and you’ll likely be looking for tickets on the secondary market.

Here’s an example: A ticket behind the Dodgers dugout costs more than $80,000. As you can imagine, tickets are very scarce.

“We don’t have many tickets left,” said Barry Rudin of Barry’s Tickets, an online ticket provider.

He adds that in this case it is to be expected that fraudsters will try to take advantage.

“They don’t want to go on Craigslist. If you find a deal that’s too good to be true, it’s too good to be true,” Rudin said.

Rudin said there are a few things to watch out for:
– Prices too low
– Only buy from trusted sellers
– Only use secure payment methods. Do not pay for tickets with cash or bank transfers

To avoid a fee, some sellers may want you to send payment as friends and family, but that offers no protection to you as a buyer.

“If you don’t know them, do it in a protective way,” Rudin said. “But if you buy them from a broker, you can pay — I mean, we mostly want a credit card or a check — but you can pay us through Venmo and PayPal.”

“So it’s not so much that PayPal or Venmo aren’t good. You just have to know who to buy them from.”

And when you get your tickets, you have to be careful. That’s because the tickets must be in the MLB app, which has a special dynamic barcode.

“You also need to make sure you download the tickets on the Major League Baseball app because a photocopy will not get you into the building,” Rudin said. “For example, when you purchase a ticket from us, we transfer it to you via the Dodger app and you then receive the official barcode. There is only one way, and it is very legitimate.”

Scammers can even create fake websites that make ticket sales appear legitimate. So always check before sending credit card information.
