Drake Maye makes New England Patriots history

The New England Patriots lost again this morning to the Jacksonville Jaguars with a final score of 32-16. Although they had a very winning duel, they struggled to achieve victory in many aspects of the game.

Even though the team as a whole didn’t play well, Drake Maye had a very solid second career start.

By the final whistle, Maye had completed 26 of his 37 pass attempts for 276 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 18 yards on three carries.

With this performance, Maye actually made franchise history.

As shared by Patriots.comMaye now holds the franchise record for most touchdowns in his first two starts.

“QB Drake Mayes’ 3 touchdown passes in Week 6 tied Tom Yewcic (1962) for the most passing touchdowns by a Patriots quarterback in their first career start. Maye had 2 touchdowns against Jacksonville, giving him 5 touchdowns in his first two starts, the most passing touchdowns through two career starts by a Patriots player Jimmy Garoppolo (2016), Tom Ramsey (1987) and Yewcic each had 4,” shared the website with.

So far this season, Maye has completed 50 of his 78 pass attempts for 541 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in two games and one drive. In addition to his passing numbers, he accumulated 68 yards on 10 carries.

At 22 years old, Maye has shown incredible leadership skills, confidence and an elite team. He looks like a franchise quarterback.

One of the biggest concerns was that Maye was rattled by a poor offensive line and the fact that he didn’t have elite players around him. Not only did the rookie not seem unsettled no matter what happened, he also elevated the play of the team around him.

All in all, this is an impressive milestone that shows a bit of its potential. The Patriots definitely seem to have taken a good hit.
