Eagles player Jalen Hurts honors his late favorite musician Frankie Beverly

Jalen Hurts posted a tribute to Frankie Beverly, the Eagles quarterback’s favorite musician, on X after Beverly’s family confirmed his death at the age of 77 on Wednesday.

“His timeless music, his powerful words and his lasting impact. I am devastated to hear this,” Hurts wrote. “My prayers are with the Beverly family and the many Frankie fans around the world! His legacy will live on forever. Rest in peace my friend. Long live Frankie.”

Beverly, a Philadelphia native, was “by far” Hurts’ favorite musician, he shared in a 2023 interview with GQ. Hurts, who grew up listening to Beverly’s music thanks to his mother, sang “Before I Let Go” at the Eagles’ rookie karaoke in 2020 and added Beverly and Maze to his Apple Music Go-To Songs playlist. Thanks to Hurts, Beverly’s songs are a staple in the Eagles’ locker room.

At Beverly’s final concert in July at Fairmount Park, Hurts came onstage to present him with flowers and to tell him what Beverly and his music meant to him.

“A lot of people in this audience are going to say, ‘What is Jalen doing here? This is too much for his time,'” Hurts, 25, said onstage. “But I was just raised right, and when I tell you Frankie Beverly and Maze have a song for every feeling – ‘Joy and Pain,’ ‘We Are One,’ ‘Golden Time of Day,’ ‘While I’m Alone,’ and on and on.

“I’m so grateful for the person you have been to me through your music and for inspiring me to keep going, to persevere, to feel gratitude and to appreciate my loved ones, the people around me and great music. I just want to say on behalf of Philly and everyone here in this community, we want to thank you.”
