Eagles’ RB shines with highlight run

Kids, don’t try this at home.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley channeled his inner eagle and decided to spread his wings and take on the Jaguars on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. Barkley’s reverse hurdle is a move that stunned his team, his coach, his opponent and his fans. Many will try to imitate him and few will succeed.

A move that was previously only possible in video games has now become a reality. As love for Barkley grows among Eagles supporters, this represents a quick turnaround in the star running back’s career. His first season in the “City of Brotherly Love” has turned the once hated rival into a hometown hero. With another piece added to Sunday’s highlight reel, Barkley’s 2024 montage is transformed into a feature-length film.

In case you haven’t seen enough of the move yet, here’s what it looked like from all angles and a glimpse of the reaction that followed.

Saquon Barkley overcomes the hurdle

In the second quarter of Philadelphia’s Week 9 win over Jacksonville, quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a pass to Barkley on a third-and-six. He slipped on the first tackle, sent another defender into a tailspin, grabbed the first tackle and then capped it off with a reverse hurdle throw over the third defender.

Barkley even amazed AJ Brown.

“It was the best game I’ve ever seen,” head coach Nick Sirianni, never at a loss for words, said after the game. “What I think is so cool is that there will be kids all over the country and all over Philadelphia trying to play this game, talking about this game and simulating this game while playing backyard football or peewee football. They won’t.” I think he’s the only one in the world who can do it. It was incredible.

“Crazy,” DeVonta Smith added. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

While Barkley’s teammates were in awe, the running back downplayed the moment.

“I was just playing ball,” Barkley said, before saying the team needed to clean up some things after an uneven second half.

Saquon Barkley stats

Barkley had another good day at work, recording 159 rushing yards on 27 carries. He completed three of four targets and finished with 40 yards rushing in the game. Barkley left his mark by scoring half of the team’s points, rushing and a touchdown.

In eight games, Barkley has already reached 925 rushing yards on just 157 carries. In his final season with the Giants, Barkley finished with 962 yards and 247 carries in 14 games. The star running back has surpassed 1,000 yards receiving and could be poised to reach a career high before the end of the season. Barkley recorded 2,028 scrimmage yards in his rookie season and hasn’t even come close to the 2,000-yard mark since.

The oft-injured running back has proven himself in 2024, which wasn’t the case with the Giants. If this continues, Giants owner John Mara might have trouble sleeping.
