European ministers reject Harris’ claim: ‘World leaders laugh at Trump’

Kamala Harris famously claimed during the ABC debate on September 10 that “world leaders are laughing at Donald Trump.” But European officials rejected the vice president’s remark at the United Nations High Level Week, stressing they were “friends of America.”

European ministers reject Harris’ claim that world leaders are “laughing” at Trump.

Asked about the Democratic candidate’s claims against the former president, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the U.S. and Italy were “two sides of the same coin.” “If Trump becomes the new president of America, we will work with him just as we worked with him when he was president of America,” Tajani added, according to Fox News.

Earlier this month, Harris and Trump fought a tough battle during the high-stakes presidential debate. Both candidates made controversial comments about each other, with the 59-year-old telling the Republican candidate: “I’ve spoken to military leaders, some of whom have worked with you, and they say you’re a disgrace.”

Tajani continued: “For us, transatlantic relations are the key strategy of our foreign policy, of Europe and America.” He explained that Italy “worked well together” with Joe Biden and previous American presidents, including George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama ” have.

Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of Lithuania and the Czech Republic refrained from commenting on the U.S. election, saying they would “leave the decision to American citizens.” However, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky praised Trump’s defense spending.

“The point is that Donald Trump had a strong message for Europe in his time, and that message resonated greatly and resonates even more now because he said that you should spend more on defense,” Lipavsky said, according to the medium .

He continued that his “government is spending more on our defense,” adding, “We want to get to that 2% of GDP, we’re going to get it this year, and we’re going to go next year.” So if Donald Trump is a president with that “If the message was ‘please spend 2%’, we would be OK.”
