Construction is nearing completion on the $3.35 billion first phase of the 3.9-mile D Line subway extension. The project will extend the D Line (formerly the Purple Line) from its current terminus at Western Avenue to La Cienega Boulevard in Beverly Hills.

Construction on Section 1 is just over 91 percent complete, and the extension is scheduled to open to the public in late 2025. Two more extensions to the D Line are also under construction; these will extend the subway to Westwood.

“If you drive down Wilshire,” noted Timothy Lindholm, Metro’s chief program management officer, at the construction committee meeting last month, “you’ll actually see these stations starting to take shape. They’re visible along the alignment.”

“(For Section 1), all the tunneling is complete, the excavation is complete and the concreting is done, and we are in completion mode and test mode and system mode,” Lindholm noted. “That bodes well for us to complete the project and open it next year.”

The new stations are actually visible to everyone moving along Wilshire, including cyclists, pedestrians, and bus riders. Streetsblog was in the area yesterday and took photos of the new stations, which look a lot like, well, stations!
