Fatal shooting reported near a park in Kansas City, one person in stable condition

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – A fatal shooting was reported near a Kansas City park over the weekend, with another victim in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

Kansas City, Missouri police said that on Saturday, August 17, at around 4:15 p.m., emergency personnel were called to the 300 block of Maple Boulevard near Maple Park for reports of a shooting.

As emergency responders were on their way to the scene, they were informed that the shots had been fired at a vehicle that had already driven away.

Shortly afterward, police officers were called to the area of ​​Smart and Bales Ave., one mile east of the original crime scene, for another report of a shooting. This time, a victim was found, but unresponsive. Another victim was outside the vehicle.

First responders said the unresponsive victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is now in stable condition.

Investigators said there remains a police presence at both crime scenes while investigators search for witnesses and collect evidence. No further information has been released. No suspects are in custody.
