Fertig was named to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year watch list

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The preseason accolades continue for University of Wyoming senior center Allyson Fertig, who was recently named to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year preseason watch list. Fertig is one of only 20 student-athletes on the list for the prestigious award given to the best center in the country.

Fertig, who was also named the Preseason Mountain West Co-Player of the Year and was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watch list in October, is a two-time All-Mountain West team honoree.

Last season, Fertig ranked sixth in the league with an average of 14.3 points per game. She was now the second-leading rebounder and shot blocker in the conference, scoring 8.4 points per contest and sinking about 1.64 shots per game. Fertig’s field goal percentage of 60.8% was the 10th best clip in the country and set a UW program record.

“It’s one of my favorite things to do, watching her improve and improve game after game, season after season. She just keeps reaching a new level, which is really good for her,” senior guard Tess Barnes said. “She gets up and down the court quicker, she’s stronger than ever and she basically just dominates. That’s the key word.”
