First air show “Rumble Over the Redwoods” takes place at ACV Airport

The first “Rumble Over the Redwoods” air show is scheduled to take place this weekend in Humboldt County.

“Everyone has brought together a great group of aerobatic pilots and we are thrilled to bring the community here,” said Cory Lovell, aerobatic pilot from the Sukhoi West Demo Team.

The two-day event at the ACV Airport in McKinleyville features an impressive lineup of artists, exciting aerobatic displays and activities for the whole family.

“These smaller shows are a lot of fun because they’re a lot more personal,” Lovell said. “You get to meet people, it’s not such a commercial event, so I think everyone who comes along has the opportunity to get up close to the planes, talk to the pilots and really connect with the community here.”

Aviation enthusiasts from around the world are invited to admire and celebrate historic aircraft flown by industry experts.

“There’s something for everyone, adult or child, I think it’s going to be an incredible event,” Lovell said.

Set against the backdrop of the Redwood Coast, some of history’s most famous aircraft are on display to honor the sacrifices of their service members and inspire the next generation of pilots.

“When the kids come here, they experience the magic of flight. Nowadays, you just get on a commercial airplane and feel like you’re a prisoner of the whole system. This is an opportunity to celebrate the freedom of flight and the magic of the sky. So inspiring the kids is the best thing,” said Eric Tucker, air show pilot for the Tucker Air Patrol.

Rumble Over the Redwoods takes place on both Saturday and Sunday.

General admission tickets are $30, but children under 12 are free with a paying adult.
