Flights to and from Denmark were significantly disrupted by climate demonstrations at Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s busiest airport. Activists from the group “Last Generation” protested by gluing themselves to the tarmac, leading to the temporary suspension of air traffic and the cancellation of over 140 flights.

A climate demonstration by activist group Last Generation disrupted air traffic at Frankfurt Airport, affecting many flights to and from Denmark and other destinations. The protest took place on July 25, 2024, and resulted in the cancellation of over 100 flights. Activists broke into the airport and glued themselves to the runway, causing a temporary shutdown of operations. The demonstration was part of a broader protest against fossil fuels, highlighting the continued extraction and use of oil, gas and coal as a threat to the environment.

Frankfurt Airport is one of Europe’s busiest airports and the disruption caused significant delays. Although the airport resumed operations later in the day, the impact was felt across the schedule, affecting around 1,400 scheduled flights. This led to ongoing delays as airlines worked to accommodate passengers.

The protest sparked political reactions, with German officials calling for improved security at airports. The demonstration in Frankfurt was followed by similar actions at other airports, as the group Last Generation announced a week of protests to raise awareness of climate issues.
