Florida woman tried to run over her ex-boyfriend who wanted to leave her

A Port Orange woman was arrested for attempting to run over her ex-boyfriend who had hoped to rekindle their relationship, police said.

Jamie Hale, 48, was charged with attempted murder, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine. She was being held without bail Monday in the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Port Orange police said they were called to the parking lot of the Walmart store at 3811 Clyde Morris Boulevard at 7:31 p.m. Friday, where witnesses reported seeing Hale attempt to run over the man.

In a police report, the victim told police that he went to Hale’s house the day before and stayed overnight, but she was acting strange. He decided to leave and walked to Walmart the next day to get a ride, the police report said.

Hale followed the victim and picked her up, and in the car they started arguing because she didn’t want him to leave, police said.

When the victim arrived at Walmart, he got out of the car with his belongings. Hale told him, “I’m going to kill you” and tried to run him over, but the victim was able to swerve. Hale then backed up at a high rate of speed and tried to run the victim over again, according to the police report.

She then raced out of the parking lot.

In addition to witness statements, Port Orange police reviewed Walmart surveillance video that captured the incident.
