Food, drinks and fun off the court

The US Open has returned to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2024 festivities kicked off Monday with Fan Week, which was free and open to the public before the main tournament begins on August 26. Here’s a look at what’s happening in and around the stadium in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park this year.

Eat and drink as if you were still in Manhattan

While the dining options at sports stadiums often leave much to be desired, the US Open is enhancing its dining scene by partnering with celebrity chefs and bringing many of the city’s most popular restaurants to the stadium. This year’s dining options include dishes from Simon Kim’s trendy fried chicken concept. Coqodaq, Tatiana Chef Kwame Onwuachi, David Burke, Pat LaFrieda, Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto and more. Aromas of the Opena public preview of the ticketed food offering presented by DOBEL Tequila will take place on Thursday during Fan Week leading up to the tournament’s main draw.

Carnegie Deli is also hosting a pop-up at the stadium, with pastrami and corned beef sandwiches on the menu starting Monday.

Moet & Chandon is the official champagne partner of The Open and will be served in the Clubhouse Bar throughout the tournament. Courtside Premier Ticket holders will have access to limited edition offerings including the co-branded ‘Golden Goblets’ and Moët’s official tournament cocktail, La Piscine, which features champagne served over ice with a melon ball garnish – fittingly for the theme.

Also during the fan week …

DJ D-Nice will headline the first US Open Block Party on Friday. The evening will take place in the center’s Fountain Plaza and will begin at 8 p.m. with a set by DJ Millie.

Art partnerships

An unexpected pairing: Wonder Superheroes and tennis superstars. Marvel has collaborated with the US Open on a comic that will be distributed free to US Open Fan Pass holders starting Monday during Fan Week. Naomi Osaka and Carlos Alcaraz are among the players featured in illustrated form. This year’s official artwork for the US Open, a celebration of the “power of tennis,” was designed by St. Louis-born Chelsey Farristhe first American woman chosen for the job in 15 years. Her design is featured on posters and other merchandise available for purchase.

Hotels offering US Open experiences to their guests

Ultra-luxury hotel A man offers a US Open Tennis Experience package. Guests will receive, among other things, a two-night stay, two courtside seats for the men’s final, and all-day car service – including transportation to and from the tournament on a 48-foot daychaser yacht. The views on the way there are sure to be interesting.

Crowne Plaza HY36an official partner of the US Open, also offers a US Open package to loyalty members. The package includes a welcome pack of game day essentials like sunscreen, snacks, a portable fan (aka the accessory of the summer) and a portable charger. The hotel hosts several players, which adds to the experience factor. Located near Hudson Yards and a short walk from Penn Station, it is well located for quick access to the stadium via either the subway or the Long Island Railroad.

Still in Queens?

The Queen’s Museum is a short walk from the USTA Billie Jean King Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Current exhibitions at the museum include Cameron A. Granger’s “9999,” featuring videos and sculptures, “Lyle Ashton Harris: Our First and Last Love,” and the museum’s Panorama of New York, a scale model of the city’s five boroughs created for the 1964 World’s Fair.

A taste of the US Open back in Manhattan
