Former Saints player makes New Orleans look stupid after fantastic first game with his new team

The New Orleans Saints feel like they improved their defense this offseason. However, they did let go of a key 2023 player during free agency. Zack Baun went to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fresh start.

His start in Philly was as fresh as can be. Baun was one of the best players on the Eagles defense in their Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers. Baun totaled 14 tackles and two sacks in his debut in green.

Zack Baun dominates in first game with the Eagles

Baun’s career never really took off in New Orleans. The Saints’ coach bears some of the blame for that.

When Baun came to the NFL, his best role was as an edge rusher. His pass rushing skills were the highlight of his entire skill set. He was a great mover when he came to the pros from Wisconsin, despite being a slightly smaller edge player.

For for whatever reasonThe Saints tried to make him an inside linebacker.

Accordingly, Baun struggled at times in the black and gold. They failed to capitalize on his strengths and that cost them impressive pass rush reps from a guy who had proven his worth in that role in college.

Now, in Philadelphia, they let him storm from the side and run around a little less in the passing game. Wow, now THE makes sense!

He was also effective in the running game on Friday night. You don’t get into double-digit tackles unless you attack both running and passing plays. Baun did just that.

Baun’s impressive performance could make Dennis Allen and Co. realize how wrong they were about his potential. The Saints could regret letting him go in the offseason.
