Freeze Watch for Parts of the Chicago Area – NBC Chicago

The coldest temperatures of the season are expected to arrive in the coming days, with a freeze warning in effect for parts of the Chicago area.

According to the National Weather Service, this watch will go into effect late Tuesday evening and last through Wednesday morning.

According to NWS officials, areas west of Chicago will be affected, including McHenry, DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle, Kendall and Grundy counties.

Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing during the overnight hours, with minimum temperatures dropping to over 20°C in some places.

According to the NWS warning, temperatures this low can not only kill or damage crops and sensitive vegetation, but can also damage unprotected outdoor plumbing fixtures.

Elsewhere in the region, low temperatures are expected to fall into the 30s as the coldest air of the season settles over the region. According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, high temperatures in most of the region are expected to only reach into the mid-50s, the lowest temperatures we have seen since April.

These temperatures will slowly increase throughout the week, rising back into the 60s by Thursday and possibly the mid to upper 60s by Friday, according to advanced forecast models.
