Game 162 Lineups: Nats vs. Phillies

Game 162 Lineups: Nats vs. Phillies

We have reached the finish line. It’s Game 162, and while it doesn’t officially matter to either team, there are still some personal victories at stake. And the Nationals have a chance to finish the year with an upset win over the playoff-bound Phillies and surpass last year’s win total at No. 72.

Jake Irvin will be on the mound one last time. And as was the case with MacKenzie Gore on Saturday, he’s going for win No. 11, a number no Nats starter has reached since 2019. Unlike Gore, Irvin can’t drop his ERA below 4.00 — unless he goes 10 2/3 scoreless innings — but he can finish on a high note. And if he can go 6 2/3 innings, he’ll reach the .190 mark for the season, which is no mean feat.

At the plate, James Wood needs another home run to reach 10 in his rookie season. Dylan Crews needs a good day to get his batting average over .200. Oh, and in the bullpen, Derek Law still needs to record an out to reach 90 innings for the season.
