Since installing more ceiling lights was out of the question, Mary had to come up with a lighting solution that would be effective but would also allow her to get her security deposit back when she moved out.

She discovered an LED light strip at Kmart and came up with the idea of attaching the $12 product to various places in her closet so she could actually see her clothes and accessories.

“I thought it would add a luxurious touch to the wardrobe for little money and would also be an attractive option for renting,” she says.

In total, she used six sets of these lights and placed them above the clothes rail and under some shelves.

The LED lights are activated by a sensor, meaning when Mary opens the closet door, the lights turn on and off again when the door is closed. And because each strip is battery-operated and has a 3M adhesive backing, no electrician was required to get them up and running.

When Mary shared snaps of her newly lit closet on Facebook, she received tons of praise and compliments for her “genius” trick.

“Game changer, I love it,” one user wrote in the comments.

“That’s very cool,” said another.

Others have already thought about where they would like to use the LED lights around their home.

“Oh, I’m going to get these for my daughter’s storage compartment!” wrote one.

“For your pantry!” another suggested to his friend.
