Harris vs. Trump: What to expect, when and where to watch the important US presidential debate

In the United States, a second general election debate will soon take place between the newly elected Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and the Republican candidate Donald Trump.
This debate comes months after US President Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he would withdraw from the election and endorse Vice President Harris. Biden faced massive criticism within his party over his ability to serve another term following his aimless debate performance against Trump in June.
The moderator of the debate is ABC News There will be a 90-minute clash between the two politicians at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
When is the debate?
The debate will begin on September 11 at 6:30 am IST (9:00 pm ET).
Who moderates the presidential debate?
“World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and ABC News Live “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis will moderate the debate.
What are the rules?
ABC News has announced updated rules for the upcoming debate. According to the new rule, “microphones will be turned on only for the candidate whose turn it is and muted when another candidate’s turn comes.” In addition, only the moderators are allowed to ask the candidates questions.
On Tuesday, a virtual coin toss was conducted to determine the order of closing arguments and podium placement. Former President Trump won the coin toss to determine the order of closing arguments. There will be no opening speech in the debate. Each candidate will have two minutes to make their closing statement. For each question asked, candidates will have two minutes to respond, followed by a two-minute rebuttal. An additional minute will be allocated for follow-up questions, clarifications or answers.
Candidates stand behind lecterns throughout the debate. No props or pre-written notes are allowed on stage. Each candidate is given a pen, notepad and bottle of water.
During commercial breaks, campaign staff are not allowed to interact with candidates.
Where can you watch the debate?
According to ABC News, the debate will be broadcast live at 6:30 am IST (9 pm ET) on ABC News Live 24/7 Streaming Network and on Fox News. OTT platforms such as Disney+ and Hulu will also stream it live.
ABC News will also air a pre-debate special, “Race for the White House,” at 5:30 a.m. IST (8 p.m. ET), hosted by Chief Global Affairs Correspondent and “This Week” co-anchor Martha Raddatz, Chief Washington Correspondent and “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl, Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce and Senior Congressional Correspondent Rachel Scott.
