Harry Kane breaks Wayne Rooney's Champions League goal record as Bayern Munich wins

Harry Kane became the English top scorer in UEFA Champions League history in Bayern Munich’s 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.

With four goals in the Allianz Arena – three of them from penalties – the striker increased his total goal tally to 33.

With these goals, Kane overtook Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney to become the greatest Englishman of all time. Kane trailed Rooney 29-30 on Tuesday but finished the night three goals clear of the former striker.

In conversation with DAZN After the game, Kane looked back on a “crazy” night in which Bayern also set the record for most goals in a single Champions League game.

“An incredible game, definitely a bit crazy. To score all those goals at the end was a great night,” said Kane.

“To be honest, after the second (penalty), I didn’t really know what to do with the third, but luckily I was able to score.”

With his four goals during the week, Kane has now scored 53 goals in just 50 games for Bayern across all competitions.

Kane has scored 12 of his 33 Champions League goals for Bayern since joining from his boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.

The England captain scored 21 goals for Spurs in five seasons in Europe’s elite club competition, scoring his first in 2016. In addition to his 33 goals in the Champions League, Kane also scored an impressive 24 goals in the Europa League and Conference League, all for Tottenham.
