Heather Dianne Turner, 35, was observed crying sitting on a walkway on the ticket level at Nashville International Airport around 4:30 a.m. on August 16. Officers were called to check on the welfare of a woman, later identified as Turner, who was described as emotionally distraught. When they arrived, they found Turner, who told them she was leaving on Southwest Airlines at 5:30 a.m. Turner then attempted to stand up but was unsteady on her feet. Officers then informed her that she would miss her flight. Turner attempted to pack her luggage, nearly falling several times.

Eventually, Turner fell and needed officers’ help to get back up. Police explained to Turner that the airline would not let her fly in her current condition and that she could get a hotel room to sleep off her intoxication. Turner told them she was unsure if she had money for a room. During their interview, officers noticed that she smelled of alcohol and was visibly impaired, so they asked her if she had been drinking. After initially denying alcohol consumption, Turner admitted to drinking and stated that she did not know anyone in the area who could pick her up. Turner was deemed a danger to herself and was taken into custody for public intoxication.
