HEB plans its first store in Irving, Texas

HEB plans its first store in Irving, Texas

HEB announced Thursday that it plans to open its first grocery store in the fast-growing Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas.

The grocer bought a property in Irving in the Las Colinas community and plans to open a supermarket in late 2026.

The property, located at Interstate 635 and Olympus Boulevard, is in front of a former Fry’s electronics store.

Once opened, the store is expected to employ around 700 people.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, HEB said.

The Irving location marks more than two decades of expansion into North Texas for San Antonio, Texas-based HE-B.

“Irving’s central location in the Metroplex also provides residents with easy access to HEB,” Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer said in a statement.

HEB also announced its first name, image and likeness (NIL) deal with a college athlete this week. The partnership with University of Texas at Austin volleyball player Madisen “Madi” Skinner underscores HE-B’s “pride in Texas athletes and sports teams,” according to the grocer.

In 2021, the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) introduced a new policy that allows student-athletes to earn money from their personal brands, similar to how professional athletes do.

Skinner will appear at HEB and UT-Austin events and star in a series of commercials for the grocer that will air across Texas.

Skinner holds three NCAA championships and is the fifth-best player in the country in terms of points per set.

“HEB has always been an important part of my family’s life growing up in Texas,” she said in a statement. “It was always more than just a grocery store to us and I have many fond childhood memories. To be their first NIL partner and represent female college athletes is an absolute honor.”
