Henry Winkler hits the jukebox again at the Emmy reunion of “Happy Days” with Ron Howard

Richie and Fonzie are back together.

At the Emmys, Ron Howard and Henry Winkler took the stage to host a sort of “Happy Days” reunion to mark the show’s 50th anniversary.

On a reenactment of the show’s famous Arnold’s Drive-In, Winkler and Howard noticed that they weren’t being brought to the stage by the show’s popular theme song. Howard then told Winkler to take care of the problem, which prompted Winkler to use a classic Fonz move. He slammed his fist on the jukebox, which immediately started playing “Happy Days” by Pratt & McClain.

Howard himself is a three-time Emmy winner, while Winkler won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for “Barry” in 2018. Winkler was also nominated three times for his role in “Happy Days.”

Teasing about the reunion with diversity On Thursday, Emmy producer Jesse Collins said, “I’m curious if you think we’ve reached the jukebox. There’s a whole jukebox conversation.”

Howard starred as the decent, freckled Richie Cunningham on Happy Days until he left the sitcom after the seventh season to pursue a career as a director. Winkler, who played cool rocker Arthur “The Fonz”/”Fonzie” Fonzarelli, was promoted from lead to main role after the first season. A smooth-talking sex symbol, Fonzie became so popular that Happy Days producers considered renaming the show “Fonzie’s Happy Days” after the first season.

Fonzie’s legacy also includes playing a key role in inventing the phrase “jumping the shark,” which was coined in reference to a season five episode in which Fonz jumps over a shark on water skis. The phrase is used to describe when a creative work has gone too far by introducing new ideas that are inconsistent with its original premise.
