Hermes reopens renovated store in Melbourne

Hermès has announced the reopening of its renovated and expanded Melbourne store. Opened ten years ago on Collins Street, the store is one of six in Australia, where the House has been present for nearly four decades. Inspired by the city’s European architecture as well as its landscape and coastline, the store’s bespoke design invites visitors to discover the House’s different metiers.

Located on the corner of Collins and Exhibition Streets, the store features a series of arched windows that add lightness to the space. The heritage-listed building has retained its unique façade and welcomes visitors with a deep transitional space between the city and the store’s detailed decor, featuring traditional Grecques light fixtures and emblematic Faubourg mosaic. Inside, silk goods for men and women are displayed alongside costume jewelry and perfume, all nestled in a green cocoon adorned with leaf motifs. As guests venture deeper into the store, they discover an alcove covered with a woven patterned carpet inspired by the bark of the native Australian eucalyptus tree, where the house’s leather goods, watch and jewelry collection is presented. The equestrian universe is located at the foot of the stairs leading to the first floor, where the home collection, men’s ready-to-wear and shoes are displayed, followed by the women’s universe, the company said in a press release.

Designed by Parisian architecture firm RDAI, the renovated store is set in a bright and green setting. On the ground floor, the natural wood and the green spectrum of the tailor-made fabrics give the feeling of immersing yourself in a tropical rainforest. Upstairs, in a gentle transition, warmer floral tones such as orange, ochre and pink recall the vibrant colors of spring.

Hermès has reopened its renovated Melbourne store. The design is inspired by European architecture and the city’s natural landscapes. Combining lightness and greenery with a traditional and modern aesthetic, the store presents Hermès’ collections in a tropical, rainforest-like setting, offering a new perspective on the House’s craftsmanship.

The decor is complemented by works of art from the Hermès collection of contemporary photography and the Émile Hermès collection, such as Portrait of the Scorpion Horse by the English painter Francis Sartorius. For the opening, French artist Hubert Crabières will transform the store’s window scenography into The Faubourg Enchantery. This decor plays on the stillness and permanence of photographs printed on moving fabrics and draws inspiration from Hermès’ annual theme in the spirit of the Faubourg, as well as the artist’s memories and postcards of Melbourne.

The renovated Melbourne store offers a unique interpretation of the House’s know-how and invites loyal customers and new visitors to discover Hermès’ contemporary creations through the House’s unique craftsmanship.
