What you should know

Michigan and USC have met 10 times, including eight in the Rose Bowl. They played a home-and-away series that brought the Trojans to Ann Arbor in 1958. On Saturday, they return as members of the Big Ten. This will be their first conference game as part of the league. It is also the Wolverines’ opening game in the Big Ten; they have won the league the last three years.

Alex Orji will be playing for Michigan for the first time. So far, he’s a dual-threat quarterback in name only, having attempted just seven passes in his career. Head coach Sherrone Moore brought him in last week after benching Davis Warren, and it will be exciting to see what Orji can do with the opportunity.

USC is in good shape after a 2-0 start that includes a win over LSU. The Trojans, who had a bye last week, have seen strong QB play from Miller Moss and have displayed what appears to be a better defense than last season.

Michigan hasn’t lost two games in the regular season since the disastrous 2020 season. To avoid a second loss on Saturday, Michigan will simply have to play much better than it has so far this season.
