Party events also take place at McCormick Place, the city’s largest convention center. The building is located near Lake Michigan, south of Soldier Field and the city’s Museum Campus.

While the full list of speakers has not yet been released, some of the Democratic Party’s biggest stars will be in attendance, including President Joe Biden, who will speak at the convention on Monday.

Former Presidents Barack Obama (Tuesday) and Bill Clinton (Wednesday) will also speak, as will former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (Monday), First Lady Dr. Jill Biden (Monday), former First Lady Michelle Obama (Tuesday) and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (Tuesday), to name a few.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who has been selected as the vice presidential candidate, will speak at the party’s convention on Wednesday, while Vice President Kamala Harris will formally accept the party’s presidential nomination on Thursday.

Where will there be road closures?

Numerous streets are currently closed around the United Center and McCormick Place. Restricted areas and other areas where security checks are required for incoming vehicles are largely cordoned off by fences.

You can find these closings in the NBC Chicago app.

A number of closures were also reported in the downtown area, including on Huron Street and Chicago Avenue between Michigan Avenue and Rush Street.

In addition to other closures downtown, State Street will also be closed between Delaware Place and Walton Street.

Information about these closures can be found here.

Two days before the Democratic National Convention, safety measures have gone into effect for residents and workers near the two main venues – United Center and McCormick Place, NBC Chicago’s Vi Nguyen reports.

Where can I find the Democratic Party’s 2024 election platform?

The Democrats are in an interesting position ahead of the party convention, as they have still not updated the draft of their election platform that they adopted at the beginning of the year. The original version still listed Biden as the leading candidate.

According to an analysis by the Associated Press, the current election manifesto shows in detail how the Biden-Harris candidate ticket differs from that of former President Donald Trump.

The document highlighted, among other things, the Biden administration’s refusal to raise taxes on those earning less than $400,000 a year, cut costs and raise wages, combat climate change, and strengthen voters’ rights and access to reproductive care.

The party is expected to adopt a new program during the congress.

What are the main topics of the congress?

The convention’s theme is “For the People, For Our Future” and the focus will be on moving the country forward and building on the work of the Biden administration.

The daily topics are:

Monday – “For the people”

Tuesday – “A bold vision for America’s future”

Wednesday – “A fight for our freedoms”

Thursday – “For our future”
