Humidity increases as we watch the tropics

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – High pressure remains the dominant weather factor in our weekend weather forecast. As the high slowly moves east, we will see yesterday’s dry air slowly becoming moister and capable of supporting a few showers. Saturday is expected to be dry and Sunday is also expected to be dry, although with additional clouds and higher humidity. Early next week we will see better chances for a few showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two.

The big forecast question is what could develop in the tropics. The Hurricane Center is currently monitoring several locations for possible development. Models have been aggressive about the formation of several storms over the last week or so, but none of them actually became a reality. However, they point out that the area is ideal for development if various elements align, and it finally looks like that could be the case by next week.

There is still very weak agreement between models about what could develop and what impact, if any, the Sun Coast could have. But confidence grows when you see something developing and generally moving north. Once something actually develops, we have a better idea of where it can go and what conditions may exist that either hinder or support its development.

Stay tuned for forecasts this weekend. Storms that develop in the Caribbean often have a short fuse and provide only a short warning period.
