Iceland vs Wales LIVE: Nations League results, commentary, lineups and latest updates

The new manager’s first win, a 2-1 triumph in Montenegro, was built on a great start with Wales scoring both goals in the first two minutes.

Here they had to wait a little longer, but within half an hour they were still 2-0 ahead.

While torrential rain and gusty winds caused chaos in Montenegro, Iceland’s sub-freezing temperatures favored Wales’ fluid new style of play, albeit another challenge for the traveling fans.

More than a fifth of the 5,200 or so spectators at the picturesque Laugardalsvollur stadium came from Wales, swapping their usual bucket hats for woolen caps in the cool Nordic air.

Their loud presence made Johnson’s opener feel like a goal for the home team.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker reacted quickly and fired the ball into the goal from close range after Iceland goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson parried Wilson’s initial attempt and then rolled the ball into the net with his hand.

Iceland clearly didn’t learn from that goal – which was scored by Williams’ beautiful ball over Wilson’s goal – because they conceded another goal in the same way 18 minutes later.

This time the left-back was further out as he lifted a pinpoint diagonal pass deep from his own half over the Icelandic defense to Wilson, who brought the ball elegantly to the ground and confidently shot past Valdimarsson.

In between those goals, another shot from Wilson was deflected against the post, while Sorba Thomas parried a shot from Valdimarsson, but Iceland were also dangerous.

Andri Gudjohnsen, son of former Chelsea striker Eidur, was denied by a brilliant goal-line block from Williams and the hosts wasted a host of chances early in the second half.
