When Sharma reached the Harvard Shop, Harvard University’s official student-run merchandise store, she was surprised to see first the price tag and then the label revealing where the clothes were made.

The Indian YouTuber shared photos of himself wearing a Harvard jacket in the institute’s signature purple and black. One image shows the label on the jacket that reads “Made in Pakistan.”

“Came to Harvard to buy merchandise. This costs Rs 12,000! But Made in Pakistan?!” Sharma wrote on X.

Social media amuses

His post sparked a flood of amused reactions.

“Indian goes to America to buy clothes made in Pakistan, interesting,” wrote X-user Mahesh.

“Even Harvard outsourced its manufacturing to Asia,” joked one user. Another joined in, saying, “Now all South Asian moms can say we have Harvard at home.”

One person criticized the quality of the merchandise. “The quality is really bad. I picked a few last year and after 2-3 washes they are all good enough to mop the floor now. Official merchandise,” commented the X user.

Some people pointed out how many clothes are exported from the subcontinent to Western countries. “Most of the things you buy in America, including the luxury brands, are made in the subcontinent, especially in Bangladesh,” said one user.

Ishan Sharma had previously expressed his disappointment at the lack of hospitality in American hotels, calling it his biggest culture shock during his trip.
