Indiana zip code named most expensive place to live in state

Can you guess where life is most expensive in Indiana?

The cost of living in Indiana is much lower than other states. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t hard to make ends meet from day to day. Many of us know the struggle of living paycheck to paycheck. It’s no secret that the cost of living is high and continues to rise. Inflation has caused so many things to be more expensive than ever before. It’s hard to pay the bills, buy groceries, and keep your gas tank full when everything is getting more expensive but your paycheck stays the same.

A while ago we reported on the cheapest and safest places to live in Indiana, now we’re going in the opposite direction. What is the most expensive place to live in the state?

Most expensive place to live in Indiana

Although there are many places with large estates throughout the state, the wealthiest homeowners in Indiana live in just one place. According to a recent list from Family Handyman, the most expensive place to live in Indiana is in the 46077 zip code, which is the suburb of Zionsville.

Here’s what Family Handyman said about Zionsville:

Zionsville offers a median home value of $364,300. The suburb is located in the far southeast corner of Boone County. The quaint and quiet village of Zionsville offers shops along the fabled brick main street, fine restaurants, and quaint cafes.

In other Zionsville news, it was recently named one of the snobbiest places to live in Indiana (which makes sense when it’s so expensive). Zionsville was also named the most charming town in Indiana, the best place to raise a family in Indiana, and the third safest small town in America. So it sounds like there might be more good than bad when it comes to Zionsville. What do you think of these results?

Outside of the major cities, the Hoosier State is full of small towns that you’ve probably passed through on your way to one of these cities. Most of them are probably 100 to 150 years old or more, and have been around much longer than the major metropolitan areas like Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Evansville. Usually they were founded by early settlers who found their way to the state and decided to settle there. Eventually, others joined them, and a community formed. Over time, as the surrounding areas grew, most of them were incorporated into those areas and administered by the nearest city or county government, officially making them “unincorporated” cities, meaning they didn’t have their own formally organized municipal government.

A look at Wikipedia’s long list of unincorporated communities in Indiana shows that some of them have names that would be considered strange, quirky, or just downright funny by today’s standards. These are my 40 favorites.
