Injury updates on Geekie and Lindholm, Rangers win season opener

Injury updates on Geekie and Lindholm, Rangers win season opener

The Boston Bruins began the preseason portion of their schedule against the New York Rangers on Sunday night at TD Garden, losing 3-2. Here we begin this edition of Boston Bruins News, and there are also some early updates on head coach Jim Montgomery’s training camp injuries.

The Bruins lost their season opener to the Rangers, but it was a thrilling game to say the least. It was a physical battle between the two young teams. Boston put Mason Lohrei and Andrew Peeke on defense, while Brandon Bussi and Michael DiPietro were the goalies.

Offensively, the Bruins scored goals by Cole Koepke and Trevor Kuntar, but goals by Victor Mancini, Filip Chytil and Alex Belzile made the difference. Belzile’s decisive goal was a poor five-hole goal against DiPietro, a spot that should have been blocked. Overall, it was not a good night for some of the bubble players.

Before the season opener, Montgomery gave some injury updates on two players, Morgan Geekie and Elias Lindholm. Lindholm, who was signed as a free agent in the summer, was on the ice at the first practice on Thursday at Warrior Ice Arena but has not been on the ice since due to injury.

“He will run tomorrow, then we will see where he is, and we expect him back on Tuesday,” said Montgomery.

As for Geekie, who is entering his second season with the Bruins after signing as a free agent two summers ago following a stint with the Seattle Kraken, he was injured during the Bruins’ exhibition game in Providence on Saturday.

“Just a maintenance issue, he’ll be fine,” Montgomery said.

The Bruins return to TD Garden on Tuesday night to host the Washington Capitals at 7 p.m. before facing the Rangers on the road at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.
