Is Phoenix Suns SG Devin Booker the best in the NBA?

PHOENIX – There are only about two months until the Phoenix Suns’ 2024-25 regular season opener against the Los Angeles Clippers.

This also includes the traditional power rankings for the regular season – including who the best players are at each position.

Suns G Devin Booker has officially made it to the SG2 spot – at least according to HoopsHype’s latest positional rankings.

Booker ranks just behind Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the shooting guard rating – and ranks 13th overall in the league.

The eternal debate about who is better might well be a trivial matter, but Booker has compelling arguments against Edwards, regardless of whether the issue should be relevant or not.

First of all, Booker is a more polished offensive player. He is a better playmaker, a better scorer and more mobile in different situations on that side of the ball – as his performances in Paris show.

While Edwards has the edge defensively, Booker has an equal advantage offensively, is a more experienced playoff player, and is more consistent in the regular season.

If anything, Donovan Mitchell, ranked 5th in this ranking, has the best chance of dethroning Booker as SG1.

Mitchell is more consistent and explosive in the playoffs when it comes to attacking different defensive positions, and he is arguably better on defense.

Booker was generally considered to be the more dangerous scorer and, compared to the Cleveland Cavaliers star, also proved capable of leading his teams further into the playoffs.

Ultimately, with his assured playoff run in 2023, his Olympic glory, and the fact that he is arguably the most versatile of the top three at the position, Booker is in pole position to take the title of best at the position.
