Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was on a hunting trip in Kentucky days before his arrest for drunk driving.

Cutler, 41, was charged with driving under the influence on Thursday, October 17, and booked into the Williamston County Jail in Franklin, Tennessee TMZ. He was also charged with failure to exercise due diligence, violating the implied consent law and possession of a handgun while under the influence of alcohol.

According to the outlet, Cutler was rear-ending another vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated when he was stopped by law enforcement. He reportedly refused a field sobriety test but was taken to a hospital where a blood sample was taken. A report on Cutler’s blood alcohol level at the time of his arrest has been released.

In the days before his arrest, footage on social media showed Cutler on a deer hunt in the neighboring state.

“Last night I ran to Kentucky,” Cutler said in a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 16. “The weather dropped a little, the temperature and pressure were high, and the deer I hunted were visible” the last two evenings. We thought we could get out a little earlier with the temperatures dropping.”

According to the Instagram video posted by Cutler’s clothing and lifestyle brand Outsider, the former Chicago Bears star was hunting a five-and-a-half-year-old white-tailed deer named Slim.

“He came out really early, like 5:15 a.m.,” Cutler continued. “Running across the field and chasing some cows. Ran away for a few spikes and then came back out of range to hunt more deer. I finally got within range around 6 p.m. And smoked it.”

Cutler said the deer Outsider had been tracking for years weighed 185 pounds.

“Jay got lucky in Kentucky last night!” read the Instagram caption.

However, the following day, Cutler was behind bars. A few hours later, he posted bail and was released.

Cutler has not commented on the arrest.

An avid hunter, Cutler started Outsider in 2020, three years after his 12-year NFL career ended.

According to its website, Outsider prides itself on “creating a community of like-minded enthusiasts who share experiences and narratives that celebrate the richness and diversity of the great outdoors.”

The brand also sells a variety of hats, drinkware, sweatshirts and accessories.

Cutler was previously married to a reality star and podcaster Kristin Cavallari From 2013 to 2020, the couple shared sons Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and daughter Saylor, 8. The former couple shares joint custody of their three children.
