JD Vance goes viral after awkward interaction at Georgia donut shop

Senator from Ohio. JD Vance is certainly the icing on the cake in “embarrassing” after an exchange between him and employees of a donut shop in Georgia has now gone viral.

With Georgia being a crucial swing state, it’s no surprise that former President Donald Trump and his running mate spend a lot of time in the dirty South. But Vance’s latest attempt to create a comfortable moment on camera in the Peach State quickly became the most embarrassing viral clip of the year.

On Thursday, Vance and his camera crew stopped by Holt’s Sweet Shop in Valdosta to buy some doughnuts, and the cameras were rolling.

Vance began speaking to a doughnut shop employee who asked not to be filmed. “She doesn’t want to be filmed, folks, so just cut her out of everything,” Vance said, smiling. “I appreciate that, ma’am.”

He then officially introduced himself to the employee and said, “I’m JD Vance. I’m running for Vice President.” But the woman was not impressed at all. She replied dryly, “okay,” before continuing her work.

The embarrassing exchange immediately sparked criticism from X viewers. User @Subscribe called Vance’s embarrassing appearance at the doughnut shop “very funny,” as if the senator was proud to be “the ultimate storyteller of the forgotten working class.”

The senator then ordered some doughnuts for his people, but it seemed like he wasn’t sure exactly how to do it. Vance told the workers, “Lots of glazed,” “some sprinkles,” and cinnamon rolls. “Just whatever makes sense,” Vance continued.

Many used X to blame the Senator for the strange as he orders donuts. Maybe all the cameras made him nervous, but an X-user @Subscribe wrote that Vance “orders doughnuts like he’s wired.”

With all eyes – and cameras – on him, Vance continued the small talk, asking each employee how long they had been with the company. When they answered “since early July” and “almost two years,” Vance replied “okay, good,” making sure never to lose his odd smile.

Overall, Vance’s attempt to connect with Americans was ineffective as he picked up his doughnuts and left the shop. The senator, who has a history of making insensitive comments about women and negative impact on Trump’s poll ratings Percentages, continues to have problems being likeable and approachable, although he claims to be.

Vance’s embarrassing photo op also comes after talk show host Elisabeth Hasselbeck criticized Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for Stop at a gas station to get some Doritos. On air, Hasselbeck said “This is the commander in chief, this is possibly the emotional reaction of the leader of the free world to stuff a bag of Doritos into himself? Are you kidding me?”

We wonder what Hasselbeck has to say now about Vance’s supposed attempt to build a rapport with Georgians ahead of the November election. Vance clearly lost a battle with Harris and Walz for a rapport. Next time, the senator should probably come with a regular doughnut order to avoid all the confusion.
