Jerod Mayo gave this reason why the Patriots played overtime. Titans

The New England Patriots scored a stunning touchdown in the final game of regulation on Sunday when Drake Maye evaded several Tennessee Titans and found Rhamondre Stevenson for the touchdown.

That left New England with the decision to end the game in Tennessee with an extra point or go for the two-point conversion and win.

The Patriots chose the tie, went to overtime and couldn’t finish the job with a 20-17 loss to the Titans.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo explained the final decision.

“At the time, I felt like it was the right thing to do,” Mayo told reporters in a video provided by the team. “It’s easy to make a judgment one way or another. I thought it was the right thing to do at the time.”

Mayo deflected when asked if the extensive goal play (and scoring) played a role in the decision-making.

“I don’t want to get into that,” Mayo said. “That’s a good question. I just don’t want to get involved in it right now.”

New England faces another challenge in Week 10 when Maye and the Patriots take on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
