For residents who will soon be regulars at Gatton Park at Town Branch, a public park under construction in Kentucky’s second-largest city, dog-walking connectivity is just a stone’s throw away.

Kinetic, an ISP operated by Windstream, announced this week the signing of a multi-year agreement that makes the company the park’s exclusive Wi-Fi provider.

The park, which will be 10 acres when completed, will be located in downtown Lexington near Rupp Arena, home of the Kentucky Wildcats.

Allison Lankford, general manager of the Gatton Park on the Town branch, said the deal, reportedly worth $1 million, will “provide high-quality Wi-Fi throughout the park.”

“We are pleased to have one of the most affordable and reliable communications providers in the country partner with us and make this significant investment,” Lankford said, according to Kinetic’s Aug. 15 press release.

In the announcement, Kinetic explained in detail how the connection to the park will be ensured.

“Kinetic will install and maintain Wi-Fi gateways (modems/routers) throughout the park to provide free Wi-Fi access across the 10-acre site for the next ten years,” the company said in the announcement.

The park, expected to be completed next year, will feature a 4,500-seat amphitheater, gardens, a dog park, a playground, a cafe and other amenities.

“This infrastructure will help people connect and share experiences, whether it’s schoolchildren learning about ecology or festival or concert-goers enjoying performing arts and other cultural experiences,” Lankford said.

She said the deal would help Gatton Park achieve its goal of becoming a “21st century community gathering place where people can connect and share experiences”.
