Lankford wants to make it easier to rent out unused federal properties

For rent: U.S. Senator James Lankford’s efforts to make better use of the federal government’s real estate holdings received a small boost when the Senate passed a bill he co-authored just before the August recess.

Because selling federal property can involve enormous bureaucratic hassle, Lankford and others propose a comparatively simpler route for leasing.

“Underutilized federal property is a waste of taxpayer dollars,” Lankford said in a press release. “This bill builds on a successful NASA program that has saved taxpayers millions of dollars each year and will encourage other agencies to look for ways to better manage federal property.”

Miscellaneous: Congress is in recess until after Labor Day. … U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin is a guest on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday.” … Lankford introduced a bill that would give veterans greater access to local health care providers. … Third District Congressman Frank Lucas said he wants better access to and use of data on weather risks and losses. … Mullin was among a group of senators urging the FDA to seriously consider approving the drug commonly known as ecstasy to treat PTSD in veterans. … Lankford reportedly attended the wedding of South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott last weekend.
