Last-minute personnel updates before kick-off

LARAMIE, Wyoming. – The latest BYU/Wyoming personnel updates from War Memorial Stadium.

Running back situation for BYU before the Wyoming game

BYU will be without LJ Martin and Hinckley Folau Ropati, which is no surprise since offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick ruled them both out on Wednesday.

None of the running backs made the trip to Laramie.

BYU’s running backs available against Wyoming without Martin and Ropati include Miles Davis, Enoch Nawahine, Pokaiaua Haunga, Sione I. Moa, Jovesa Damuni and Charlies Miska.

Miska was recently added to the roster.

If Davis starts as a running back for BYU, it would be the first start of his BYU career.

Davis’ parents sat in the front row at War Memorial Stadium during pregame warmups and watched their son.

The Las Vegas native is in his fifth season with the BYU program. He briefly entered the NCAA transfer portal last winter before returning to BYU.

Sonny Makasini is out for today’s game against Wyoming

BYU will be without right guard Sonny Makasini. The redshirt sophomore was injured late in the SMU game. Makasini will be replaced by former Southern Utah transfer Austin Leausa.

Both players fought a heated battle for the starting right guard position during fall camp, with Makasini getting the nod.

Leausa started 11 games as right tackle for Southern Utah last season.

No Mory Bamba in the third week either

BYU cornerback Mory Bamba did not travel to Laramie. Head coach Kalani Sitake was “hopeful” earlier in the week that Bamba, who was seen with a boot on his left foot, could play this week.

BYU’s starting cornerbacks are Jakob Robinson and Marque Collins. Key reserves include Evan Johnson, Therrian Alexander and Chika Ebunoha.

Wyoming is expected to have its star tight end back

Junior tight end John Michael Gyllenborg is expected to be available for the Cowboys today. He missed the first two games of the season. Last year, Gyllenborg had 23 receptions for 360 yards and three touchdowns.

Before today’s game, Wyoming ranks 131st nationally with 102 yards per game through the air.

Arriving late for the pre-match warm-up

The BYU football team typically takes the field about two hours before kickoff for the first warmup. They didn’t enter Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium until 5:19 p.m. (MDT).

There was a slight delay when leaving the team hotel in Cheyenne.

Nosebleeds when warming up

BYU freshman Jonathan Kabeya suffered a bloody nose during pregame warmups. He appeared to be OK, but his white practice T-shirt was covered in blood.
