Legacy Food Group expands with addition of Halsey Foodservice

Legacy Food Group will become the company’s fifth operating division, joining Keck’s Food Service, Inc., M&V Provisions Co., Thomsen Foodservice, Inc. and Best Mexican Foods.

Halsey’s product line includes fresh and frozen meats, fresh and pre-cut produce, spices, canned goods, kitchen supplies and paper products. They supply independent restaurants, including the Mexican and BBQ segment, c-stores and other foodservice establishments in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi.

President and CEO Cecilia Halsey has led significant expansion efforts to accommodate business growth, including the construction of a 250,000-square-foot distribution center with a meat processing center for the fresh meat department, a produce prep area with four refrigerators for the produce department, a commercially equipped test kitchen and more.

“We are thrilled to become part of the Legacy Food Group,” said Halsey. “This partnership provides us with the perfect opportunity to maintain the independence that has distinguished us for over 140 years, while gaining access to enhanced resources and capital that will help us advance our business.”

Halsey will retain its current name and management team, all employees will remain in place and will operate autonomously in their local markets as an operating division of LFG. They will have access to enhanced supplier relationships, consolidated purchasing advantages, coordinated sales and marketing support and other resources that will help increase the company’s regional success.

“Joining the Legacy Food Group gives us immediate support to grow our business and drive new revenue growth,” said Terry Giles, COO and Senior EVP of Halsey. “It’s a win-win for us: we can retain the operational autonomy that resonates so well with our customer base, while enjoying the benefits that come from group collaboration.”

“We are thrilled to have Halsey Foodservice as part of the Legacy Food Group family,” said Steve Push, CEO of LFG. “Cecilia Halsey and her staff have done an outstanding job of carrying on her family’s rich tradition of making Halsey a premier source of the highest quality food in the Southeast. And we are especially pleased that Cecilia, Terry and General Sales Manager Joe Spearman will remain in their current leadership roles.” As part of the transaction, Cecilia, Terry and Joe will invest significant sums in an equity stake in Legacy Food Group.

“The acquisition of Halsey Foodservice is a big step for us. It expands our geographic presence into the Southeast region, an area with a burgeoning independent restaurant scene,” said John Miller, president of LFG. “We will continue to seek future partnerships that expand our presence in the region.”
