TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – Let’s Help has completed its second day of moving everything from its old building to its new home and is ready to welcome even more from the community.

“The days are long and fly by, but we enjoy it,” says Patrick Yancey, executive director of Let’s Help.

Since early Monday morning, Let’s Help has been transporting furniture, food, clothing and other items from its previous location on Kansas Avenue to its new location on southwest MacVicar.

“There will be a lot of unpacking. We will have to get clothes out of boxes, clean them and hang them in our new clothing closets. We have pallets full of food that will need to be unpacked and put on shelves. We will have all kinds of building inspections done to make sure the building is ready to open when we are ready,” Yancey said.

The move comes after being withdrawn from the reconstruction of the Polk-Quincy Viaduct.

However, CEO Patrick Yancey said this will not stop them from serving the same population and expanding their offerings.

“A lot of the people we served at the old location are now finding us at the new location,” Yancey said.

“We don’t want to lose the connections with the people we served there who may be walking to us. We’re not quite sure how that’s going to work yet, but we’re looking at how we can maintain that connection and still provide those services,” Yancey said.

While the new location is a little smaller than the previous building, the space is much more efficient and operations are much smoother from start to finish.

“It’s humbling to see the possibilities and know that I can contribute at least a small part of it. I’m really excited about the opportunities that we have in the future to help people in need in Topeka meet their needs, but also help them find a way out of their situation,” Yancey said.

The opening of the new location is planned for September 3rd.
