Lindsey Graham: Unprepared Trump should fire his debate team

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was not satisfied with the performance of the former president Donald Trump against Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday evening.

For nearly two hours, Trump and Harris exchanged barbs in Philadelphia as they explained their visions for the country. Harris repeatedly “successfully” provoked the former president, according to Brit Hume by Fox News. In a memorable exchange, Harris told Trump that he had been “fired by 81 million people” and that it was “hard to process.”

At one point, Trump repeated a baseless rumor spread by right-wing social media accounts that Haitian migrants in Ohio were kidnapping and eating pets.

“In Springfield, they eat the dogs,” he claimed. “The people who came here eat the cats. They eat the pets of the people who live there.”

After the debate Tim Miller of The Bulwark met Graham, who gave him his assessment.

“Just spoke to Lindsey Graham in the spin room,” Miller reported. “(H)e said the debate team should be fired and Trump was unprepared. ‘(Dis)aster'”

Miller later went to MSNBC and gave a more detailed report.

“I met my old friend Lindsey Graham,” the former Republican activist said. “We were friends in 2016 when he was supporting Jeb (Bush). And we had a heated exchange, I must say, where he said I should be ashamed of myself. And the feeling is kind of mutual. After our argument about the state of affairs and policy, when we had calmed down a little bit, he looked at me and just said, ‘You’re right about one thing. That was a disaster. He was unprepared and we should fire the debate team.'”

Graham has been a staunch defender of Trump since he vehemently opposed his candidacy in 2016. Still, the senator has occasionally been outspoken when he believes the former president is on the wrong track. In April, Graham publicly clashed with Trump over a national abortion ban. Trump responded by claiming Graham’s re-election as his own.

“I blame myself for Lindsey Graham because the only reason he won in the great state of South Carolina is because I supported him!” Trump said
