Linkin Park returns with new singer after Chester Bennington’s death

Linkin Park is back.

The rock band, whose lead singer Chester Bennington died by suicide in 2017, has a new line-up and is planning a new album and tour.

On Thursday, the group announced that Dead Sara’s Emily Armstrong will sing for them – she will share vocals with veteran singer Mike Shinoda – while Colin Brittain, a producer and songwriter who has worked with Papa Roach, has joined the band as drummer, replacing former drummer Rob Bourdon. However, members Brad Delson, Joe Hahn and Phoenix, as well as Shinoda, are all returning.

“Rob had told us at some point, I think a few years ago, that he wanted to put some distance between himself and the band,” Shinoda, who founded the band together with Bourdon and Delson, explained to Billboard. “We understood that – it was already obvious. He started showing himself less, having less contact, and I know the fans noticed that too. … As a friend, that was sad, but at the same time, I want him to do what makes him happy, and of course everyone wishes him the best.”

A new era has begun for Linkin Park.

The ensemble plans to perform its new material on the From the Zero World Tourwhich is scheduled to stop in Los Angeles, New York, London, Seoul and Hamburg this month. In November they will be in Bogotá, Colombia.

Linkin Park last released an album with new material in 2017. Another light. Bennington died two months later. Since then, they have limited themselves to re-releases and a greatest hits collection, featuring hits like “In the End” and “What I’ve Done.”

Four months after Bennington’s death, his fellow rockers honored him with a tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles before taking a break.

Among other awards, the hitmakers have won two Grammys.

On the Recording Academy website, Bennington is credited with saying, “We believe that our music will always be greater than any of our individual personalities.”
