Liverpool dodge bullet as Neymar calls former Reds player Mbappe a NIGHTMARE teammate

Neymar has reportedly sent a report to his Brazilian teammates, calling former Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe “disastrous” for playing alongside him.

The Frenchman has been linked with Liverpool for years during his time at Paris Saint-Germain and last week it was announced by L’Equipe that he has agreed to join Liverpool in 2022. The French source said Liverpool have made PSG a €200 million offer for Mbappe and the player has agreed to sign a short-term deal with the Merseyside club.

PSG demanded that Liverpool double their offer if it was accepted and the deal fell through.

What did Neymar say?

Journalist Cyril Hanouna told Europe 1 that Neymar had contacted Real Madrid’s Brazilian players – including Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao and Rodrygo – to tell them about the difficulties of playing with Mbappe.

Speaking to Europe 1, Hanouna said: “The Brazilians are friends with Neymar. There has always been war between Neymar and Mbappe. Neymar sent the Brazilians a report about Mbappe telling them that it was catastrophic, that it was hell.”

Mbappe and Neymar were together at PSG between 2017 and 2023, playing 136 times together and winning four Ligue 1 titles.

However, like Lionel Messi, they failed to bring their first Champions League trophy to France and all three have now left the club following Mbappe’s free transfer to Real Madrid.

Would Mbappe have fit in at Liverpool?

There is always a delicate balance between having world-class players available – and Mbappe is undoubtedly one of them – and ensuring that there is team spirit and cohesion within the team.

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah may be the club’s top four earners, but their salaries have never completely destroyed FSG’s structure, despite them clearly being among the elite players in world football. They remain key figures in a tight-knit team, all four part of Liverpool’s five-man leadership group rather than individual players playing for themselves.

If Neymar’s analysis of Mbappe is correct, there is no doubt that his move could have disrupted the harmony within the team. And as good as he is, Liverpool may now view the missed signing as a missed opportunity.
