Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers injured against UTSA

AUSTIN – The Texas Longhorns suffered a major scare on Saturday.

Early in the second quarter against UTSA, Longhorns star quarterback Quinn Ewers was injured after throwing a long pass to tight end Gunnar Helm.

Ewers limped across the field to the faceoff line before falling to the grass.

The Longhorns’ medical staff then rushed to examine Ewers, who was led off the field shortly afterward. It appears to be a lower-body injury.

So far, there is no news on Ewers’ status and whether he will return to the game.

Before he was on his own, Ewers was off to a great start for the Horns, completing 14 of 16 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He also ran for seven yards.

Redshirt freshman backup QB Arch Manning came in to replace Ewers and immediately put the Horns in the end zone with a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore – the first touchdown catch of Moore’s career. On the next possession, Manning scored again with a 67-yard touchdown run.

Before the game, Ewers was the betting favorite for the Heisman Trophy after the Longhorns dominated Michigan in Week 2. Before Saturday’s game, he had completed 44 of 63 passes for 506 yards and six scores and posted a QB rating of 165.6.

Manning will lead the offense until Ewers returns. This will be his first major game since arriving at the 40 Acres.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
