Man allegedly stabbed parents and killed mother after he could not stay in family home

CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) – An Ohio man accused of stabbing his mother to death and seriously wounding his father remains in prison.

40-year-old Kenneth Mortimer is accused of murder, attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.

On Friday afternoon, Hamilton County police were called to a home in the 3300 block of Palmhill Lane.

According to court documents, Mortimer got into a verbal argument with his mother, 74-year-old Barbara Mortimer, when she told him he could not stay overnight at the family home.

The argument turned physical when Barbara Mortimer urged Thomas Mortimer, the man’s father, to call the psychiatric clinic.

Kenneth Mortimer then grabbed a knife from the kitchen, approached his parents, who were sitting on the couch, and began stabbing them, authorities said.

The man’s mother ran to the front door, but was thrown to the ground by Kenneth Mortimer and dragged back into the house, according to police.

Kenneth Mortimer eventually left the scene, but Cincinnati police said they were later able to locate him and take him into custody.

Authorities said Kenneth Mortimer told police he stabbed both of his parents.

A judge in Hamilton County set the 40-year-old’s bail at $2 million.

According to court documents, Thomas Mortimer remains in the hospital with serious injuries.
