Mark Robinson scandal | Lawmakers and voters react to explosive allegations against Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – On Thursday evening, new reactions came in to the Republican gubernatorial candidate, Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson.

“It’s just interesting that a person can be like that or just act like that, in general and especially a person in politics,” said Brittany Turner, who just moved to North Carolina from Arkansas. “It’s just alarming.”

We met her outside the Oberlin Regional Library. She said she had no plans to vote for Robinson as governor.

“I have a feeling that even before this information, definitely not,” she said. “But even more so now.”

Junior Senator Ted Budd also spoke out on Thursday, saying: “The comments in the article are disgusting. Mark Robinson says they are not his. He has to prove it.”

Robinson himself responded on Twitter a few minutes before the article was published. CNN claims that Robinson made several inflammatory comments on a porn site’s message board over a decade ago.

He then claimed on CNN that the posts were fake.

“It’s just tabloid garbage being used as a distraction from the substantive issues facing the people of this state,” Robinson said. “We’ve looked into it, said it’s not true, and wish we could move on and address the issues facing the people of this state.”

Other lawmakers also spoke out, including his opponent and current Attorney General Josh Stein, as well as other North Carolina politicians, including state Rep. Zach Hawkins.

“It’s an embarrassment for North Carolina,” Hawkins said. “There’s no running away from it. If North Carolinians are smart, and I know they are, they’ll make the right choice.”

Eyewitness News also Zoomed with Asher Hildebrand, a professor of public policy at Duke University who was also chief of staff to former Congressman David Price.

“These comments are so outrageous,” Hildebrand said. “Anyone who has any idea about public service or public life would never think to say something like that. That’s why some Republicans were concerned when he was elected lieutenant governor but voters put him in those offices.”

Voters like Brittany encourage people to get involved in voting at all levels.

“Some people are so busy with the big election that they forget that it is also important to focus on the people on the ground,” she said.
