Martha Plimpton denies rumors about “The Goonies 2”: There is no script

Sad news for fans of The Goonies, as a viral report claiming a sequel to Richard Donner’s 1985 classic is in the works is not true. At least not at this time. The Sun claimed earlier this month that The Goonies 2 would begin filming next summer and would feature many of the original cast members, but actors including Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton denied the report.

“Guys, there is no script for Goonies 2, there is no one ‘in it,'” Plimpton wrote on Instagram. “Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real. What is real is: CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION AND VOTE!!!!”

Feldman added in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he had “no information whatsoever” that a sequel was in development.

You probably have to go back to 2014 to find the last serious rumors about the development of “The Goonies 2”. diversity reported at the time that Donner was trying to get the original cast back together for a sequel. Actor Sean Astin said that “The Goonies 2” is being filmed, adding, “I’m 1,000% sure there will be a sequel. I’ll bet my kids that.” Donner died in 2021 at the age of 91.

The Goonies also featured Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green and Ke Huy Quan in the cast. The film is about a group of children who discover an old treasure map and go in search of the treasure of a legendary pirate named One-Eyed Willy. A family of criminals pursues them in the hope of stealing the treasure for themselves. The film is based on a story by Steven Spielberg, who produced the film.

Although “The Goonies 2” is not currently being filmed, enthusiasm for a sequel remains as high as ever given fans’ reaction to the hoax.
