Metal parts in Perdue frozen chicken lead to recall

Reports of metal wires found inside the frozen meat led to the recall.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Perdue has recalled frozen, ready-to-eat chicken products that may contain foreign metals.

According to a press release from the agency, the following products were recalled:

  • Perdue Simply Smart Organic Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets– The best-before date on the packaging of the products is 23 March 2025.
  • Perdue chicken breast fillets– The best-before date on the packaging of the products is 23 March 2025.
  • ButcherBox Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets– The best-before date on the packaging of the products is 23 March 2025.

According to a notice from FSIS released on August 16, Perdue is recalling 167,171 pounds of chicken.

The chicken, with the farm number P-33944, was sold directly to customers in stores across the country and online.

What led to the recall?

The recall came after several complaints about “metal wires embedded in the product,” the FSIS said.

No injuries or side effects were reported.

What to do if you have the product:

FSIS recommends that consumers either throw away the chicken or return it to where they purchased it for a refund.
